The restoration of basic services in Ahrweiler, Germany, was expected to take months, officials said on July 20, after severe flooding devastated the district.
In a statement posted to Facebook on Tuesday, the Ahrweiler Fire Brigade said that many of its members were personally affected by the flooding. The brigade cautioned locals to boil tap water, and said complete electricity, water, and gas services could take months to restore.
The statement was accompanied by this video, showing damage to the area around the brigade’s equipment house. Other damage, including a collapsed road, is visible nearby. Credit: Ahrweiler Fire Brigade via Storyful
