Agatha All Along Boss Addresses Rio’s Vanishing, Teases ‘Bohner Family Reunion’ T-Shirt Sales
The following contains spoilers from the Oct. 16 episode of Agatha All Along, now streaming on Disney+.
The sixth of Agatha All Along‘s nine episodes this week shed a lotta light on Teen aka William Kaplan aka Billy Maximoff’s backstory, revealed the origin of the sigil that kept his identity as secret until now, and then capped things off by establishing the new, contentious dynamic between Billy and Agatha, as the frenemies head off to finish The Witches’ Road. But what “Familiar by Thy Side” did not make time for was any status report on Aubrey Plaza’s Rio Vidal, who conspicuously disappeared at the end of the Oct. 9 episode, when Teen began revealing his true self by hurling Jen, Lilia and Agatha into a muddy chasm.
Though no new footage of Plaza can be spied in the midseason trailer that went out this week, Agatha All Along showrunner Jac Schaeffer assures fans that the scene-stealing character will be seen again.
“We’re super not done with Rio. Everybody can relax,” Schaeffer told our sister site Deadline. “Our girl’s coming back.”
Amidst this week’s deep dive into Teen’s backstory, Agatha All Along slipped in a hilarious cameo by Evan Peters, who reprised his WandaVision role of Ralph Bohner, the Westview resident who was “forced” to pose as Agnes’ husband.
As if seeing (a jumpy, twitchy) Ralph again wasn’t enough, a subsequent scene put Kathryn Hahn’s Agnes in a Bohner Family Reunion jersey, which featured the A+ slogan, “Pitch a Tent!”
Speaking with Variety, Schaeffer was “delighted” to give consulting producer Megan McDonnell credit for the witty bit of wardrobe. “She was instrumental in a lot of ways. But her idea for the ‘Pitch a Tent’? Chef’s kiss,” the showrunner said.
Whether Disney/Marvel might actually peddle the Bohner shirts to the public, Schaeffer said, “I hope so,” suggesting that some inventory is on hand.
“Bless [executive producer] Mary Livanos, she wore hers out [in public] at one point, and I had a heart attack,” Schaeffer shared. “Luckily, no one took any pictures of her.”
