Adele has become the latest star to share a tribute to George Floyd, urging people to “be righteously angered but be focused” in the wake of his death.

Floyd - a 46-year-old black man - died in police custody last week after an officer knelt on his neck for over eight minutes.

A number of celebrities have spoken out in the wake of the tragedy, which has also sparked protests in numerous cities across the United States.

Adele, 32, shared a picture of Floyd on Instagram on Monday night, writing: “Protests and marches are happening all over the globe simultaneously and only gaining momentum.

“So be righteously angered but be focused! Keep listening, keep asking and keep learning!”

“It’s important we don’t get disheartened, hijacked or manipulated right now,” she continued, adding that “this is about systematic racism, this is about police violence and it’s about inequality.”

“And this isn’t only about America! Racism is alive and well everywhere,” Adele wrote. “I wholeheartedly stand in solidarity with the fight for freedom, liberation and justice.”

The singer ended her caption with the Black Lives Matter hashtag and “#saytheirnames”, a call to remember other black people who have died in similar circumstances.

The post has been liked over 850,000 times.

Other stars to have spoken out include John Boyega, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen.

Ariana Grande was spotted among protesters in Los Angeles at the weekend, while numerous celebrities, including Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, have donated cash to charities and bailout funds.
