KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 — Award-winning American actress Jamie Lee Curtis is officially eyeing a role in the second season of Netflix’s live action adaptation of the longest-running manga and hugely popular anime, One Piece.

As a popular fan cast, the actress, who won Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars for her role in Everything Everywhere All at Once, took to Instagram on Friday to once again reply to fans pushing for her casting as Dr Kureha.

“ONCE the STRIKE against the greed of the AMTPT is SETTLED with a FAIR CONTRACT, I will lobby along with the growing fan frenzy to become Doctor Kureha in @onepiecenetflix,” Curtis captioned.

And it seems the production of the show has all but confirmed her casting.

In response to her post, co-showrunner Matt Owens replied in the comment section, “Mommy dearest, that’s why we sent you that figure! No need to lobby. Once we get what we deserve and get back to work let’s talk!”

Curtis followed up her initial remarks with an additional post featuring footage of herself in an interview to promote 2022’s Halloween Ends a year ago where she said her daughter Ruby Guest encouraged her to play Dr Kureha, a grey-haired doctor on Drum Island.

All eight episodes of One Piece debuted Netflix last month and was immediately renewed for a second season two weeks later.

Oda’s statement about the renewal included a hint at the casting for Dr Kureha.

“From here on, it seems to me the Straw Hats will need a great doctor... We will see!” said Eiichiro, in reference to the expected introduction of another member of the Straw Hat Pirates in blue-nosed reindeer, Tony Tony Chopper, who is Kureha’s protege.

Still sitting at the top of Netflix’s Global To 10 for TV series, the series is still showing strong numbers in its third week, making the top 10 in 93 countries, coming out number one 1 in 25 countries with a Fresh score of 86% by critics and 95% by audiences on Rotten Tomatoes and 8.4/10 in IMDB.
