KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 — A year after losing a defamation suit mounted by her ex-husband Johnny Depp, American actress Amber Heard has finally appeared in public during a film festival.

The 37-year-old was seen at Italy’s Taormina Film Festival to promote her new film In The Fire by Conor Allyn, Deadline reported.

In the film, Heard plays an American psychiatrist who travels to a remote plantation in Colombia in the 1890s to treat a disturbed boy and finds herself in a war of science versus religion with the local priest who believes the child is possessed by the devil.

This is the Aquaman actress first such appearance since Gully at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2019, the portal noted.

The film promotion falls exactly a year after she lost the suit over her Washington Post editorial in which she described herself “as a public figure representing domestic abuse”.

After losing the suit, Heard has been keeping a relatively low profile and was reportedly building a new life in Spain.

While in Taormina, she attended the festival’s blue carpet photo call as well as the world premiere, but skipped the press conference for the film on Sunday morning.

There have also been sightings of her walking with the rest of the film team through the hilltop town, where she has been given a warm welcome and generally been left alone, apart from the paparazzi.

According to E Online, In The Fire, which has no release date, is Heard’s last acting project before the defamation trial.

She also returns as Mera in the Aquaman sequel that is set for release on December 20.
