KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25 — Award-winning actor Hugh Jackman who’s known for bringing Marvel superhero Wolverine to life admitted that the character has taken a toll on him.

The 54-year-old has appeared as the raging adamantium-bonded superhero in six movies in the X-Men franchise for the last two decades. In an interview on BBC’s Front Row, Jackson said he has damaged his vocals from yelling and growling too much.

“I’ve done some damage to my voice with Wolverine. My falsetto is not as strong as it used to be and that I directly put down to some of the growling and yelling.

“My vocal teacher in drama school would’ve been horrified with some of the things I did (as Wolverine).

“We learned a technique (in school) of how to shout and how to yell without ruining your voice. However, during Wolverine, I did some screaming and yelling and things that I think did damage to my voice,” he said.

The Les Miserables star added that he’s threading the needle more cautiously now.

“I’m working on it. I work with a singing teacher and I try not to hurt myself.

“I put a lot of effort into both physical movement and my vocal preparation for every role,” he said.

Previously, Jackman clarified that he had never used steroids for his physical preparation in playing Wolverine.

“No, I love my job. And I love Wolverine. I have to be careful what I say here, but I have been told anecdotally what the side effects are of that. And I was like, ‘I don’t love it that much.

“So no, I just did it the old school way. And I tell you, I’ve eaten more chickens — I’m so sorry to all the vegans and vegetarians and to the chickens of the world.

“Literally, the karma is not good for me. If the deity has anything related to chickens, I’m in trouble,” Jackman said.

Jackman is currently prepping for his comeback as Wolverine who will appear in Deadpool 3 alongside actor Ryan Reynolds.

He added that the filming for Deadpool 3 will begin soon and described that the film is ‘something really different’.

Deadpool 3 is currently slated for November 8, 2024 release.
