KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 — Actor and director Datuk Afdlin Shauki has been appointed advisory board member of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

Afdlin, one of 11 new members appointed, was pleasantly surprised when asked to submit his CV to DBKL before being offered the post effective July 7.

“I believe my appointment can help DBKL gain insight into the issues faced by local artistes in performances and shows,” said Afdlin, 52.

As KL is a main location for those working in the performing arts industry, he hopes it will become an established arts hub that will attract the younger generation, not just on stage but also behind the scenes, reported Sinar Harian.

Although KL is already a well-known capital city, there’s nothing wrong in promoting it as an arts capital.

Many other major cities are promoted as an arts destination to bring in more tourists.

“Maybe we can start holding international arts festivals and other such activities, not just for the locals but also tourists,” Afdlin said.

On his appointment as a launch pad into politics, he said: “Not right now, I just want to focus on the job given. But in the future, you never know.”

While he’s going to do his best as a DBKL advisor, Afdlin denies that it will affect his career in the entertainment industry.

“Insya-Allah, my film Baik Punya Along will be out next year and I will also be directing a new movie very soon.

“Even though I’ve been assigned a new duty, it’s not going to affect what I do full-time and I’ll go into the office when needed.”
