Activists Stage Protest Outside Republican Senator's Virginia Home

Activists staged a demonstration outside US Sen Josh Hawley’s home in Vienna, Virginia, on January 4, against plans by some Republican senators to challenge the Electoral College result at Congress on January 6.

This footage shows around a dozen activists from the protest group ShutDownDC chanting slogans while holding candles and signs outside the Missouri senator’s home in Vienna, a Virginia suburb of Washington.

In a statement on the group’s website, ShutDownDC said protesters delivered a copy of the Constitution to the senator’s door.

Hawley has condemned the demonstration and alleged protesters “threatened” his wife and newborn daughter.

“They screamed threats, vandalized, and tried to pound open our door,” he wrote on Twitter. “My family and I will not be intimidated by leftwing violence.”

The activists have given a different version of events. “We sang songs, chanted and shared our stories,” they wrote on Twitter. Credit: alchymediatv via Storyful
