AC Milan ‘would consider’ bid from Leicester, Brighton for striker target previously linked to Leeds
Brighton and Hove Albion and Leicester City are both considering a move for AC Milan striker Charles de Ketelaere and the Italian giants would reportedly consider accepting a suitable bid.
The Belgian centre-forward has struggled with the Rossoneri since joining from Club Brugge last summer, but he has already proved he can be a clinical goal scorer.
Leeds United have previously registered an interest in De Ketelaere, so they could be left frustrated if he proves to be a success for Brighton or Leicester.
The Seagulls and the Foxes are reportedly keen on adding the out-of-favour forward to their squad next season, but they will have to put their money where their mouth is to get a deal over the line.
As mentioned, De Ketelaere has previously shown how good he can be when playing for Club Brugge in Belgium.
In 120 appearances across all competitions for the club, the striker scored 25 goals and made 20 assists, giving him an impressive average of 0.38 goal contributions per match.
However, he has failed to find his feet in Italy so far, failing to score a single goal in 27 outings for Milan this season.
€35m required to seal De Ketelaere deal
However, Italian journalist Carlo Pellegatti has suggested that AC Milan want to give De Ketelaere a chance to regain his previous form, so won’t let the 21-year-old go easily this summer.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, via Milan Live, he said: “Yesterday, I read that there are rumours related to English teams, such as Leicester and Brighton.
“I imagine many of the comments [from Milan fans] were ‘let’s give him away’, Milan are a rich club.
“From what I understand, Milan hope that the player can rise again. I would like to see him on the right wing, with Leão and Giroud, where he would be in charge of making the difference there.”
“At the moment, he is very far from the player Pioli expects but I don’t know of any intentions to sell De Ketelaere.
“If the English clubs came with important money, the thing would be evaluated, but in principle, it’s hoped that De Ketelaere will finally become a real player again, a strong player, who runs, shoots and puts quality on the field.”
This suggests that Brighton and Leicester’s interest in De Ketelaere is genuine, but they may have to make a sizeable summer offer to get a deal sealed.
Milan paid €35m (approx. £30.8m) for the attacker last summer, so it is expected that they would want to recoup that fee to sanction a switch to the Premier League.
While De Ketelaere has struggled to find form in Italy, he is still a youngster, so still has the potential to become a top player in the future.
