Abi Carter Won ‘American Idol’ in 2024 and Will Moseley Fans Are Devastated

American Idol fans, let's all give a round of applause to your newest winner, Abi Carter!

After an intense three months of competition, season 7 (season 22 overall) came to a dramatic close on May 19. Folks tuned into the ABC series to see Abi, Will Moseley and Jack Blocker compete in the three-hour finale, all in hopes to emerge victorious. With Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richiedelivering feedback and former contestants from the season returning to sing alongside some of music's greatest performers, it was a night to remember for all as everyone watched for the results.

As Jack eventually got eliminated, Abi and Will were left in the running to become the next American Idol. In the end, Abi clinched the top spot and she was named the winner of the 2024 season.

"Your #AmericanIdol winner is … 🎉🙌," read the official caption of the winning moment on Instagram.

While many viewers were thrilled to see Abi win the competition, Will's followers had some thoughts. As they rushed to congratulate Abi on her success, they also felt there was more to say about Will emerging as runner-up.

"Should have been Will Moseley but definitely won't need American Idol to get his career going he's already started," one person wrote in the comments. "America got it so wrong. Will should have won!" another wrote. "To be fair, Abi and Will is my Top 2 since Top 24 so either of them winning will be fine to me. 🔥🙌❤️," a different follower added.

As fans may remember, Abi made an impression on the judges when she auditioned with a version of Sam Cooke's "Bring It on Home to Me." She later won a Platinum Ticket, advancing her through the first round of Hollywood Week. As for Will, he sang an original tune (titled "Gone For Good"), which sealed the judges' approval and helped him soar through the competition.

Despite not winning the season, Will later went on Instagram to sum up his feelings about the entire American Idol experience.

"Feeling incredibly blessed to have been apart of this amazing journey. Finishing this journey on a high note and this is just the beginning! Get ready America, because this is just the launch pad of my music career. Here comes Will."

As for Abi, she also expressed her gratitude over being the newest American Idol winner on Instagram.

"HOW IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE!??!?!?!? I couldn't have imagined winning #americanidol when I started this whole journey," she emotionally wrote. "We haven't had a girl winner in over 4 years and to be the first after so many seasons is the greatest honor. I'm just a girl from Indio, who used to sing on street corners, and now I've had the pleasure and privilege to work with some of the most talented people in the industry and be heard by millions of people. This is my dream and I know it's just the beginning. I love you all so much."

Congrats, Abi — and we can't wait to see what's next for both artists!
