KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 — PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said today that the Islamist party has never neglected development in states it administered, but shifted the blame to the federal government and bureaucracy for stymying intended progress.

Abdul Hadi said detractors had sought to belittle the party's struggle in upholding Islam, as if the party was ignorant of issues faced by those residing in states the party ruled such as water, basic necessities and homes.

“Such is a presumption that is politically immature by nature.

“Without taking into account that PAS is also politically determined to manage the people's needs, the party faced many obstacles from the central government, beginning from Kelantan when the current prime minister was then finance minister until now.

“Financial management in accordance with the Federal Constitution, agreements, and democratic principles are not respected,” he said in a statement on Facebook.

The Marang MP also alleged that petroleum royalties were denied to states administered by PAS, further questioning whether such a move was because of the Islamic principles held by the party.

“Now, the denial of such rights are imposed on Terengganu, Kedah and Perlis,” he said.

Yet despite the limited financial resources, Abdul Hadi said PAS was able to demonstrate good governance and integrity principles.

He claimed that Umno-Barisan Nasional which previously ruled Kelantan between 1978 and 1990 had all the financial resources at their disposal yet problems faced by the poorest state in Malaysia remained unresolved.

When PAS took over, Abdul Hadi said the party was subsequently inundated by large amounts of obstacles and bureaucracy instead.

Painting both Umno and DAP as parties acting against Islam, Abdul Hadi said only PAS remained steadfast in spreading the message of Islam without the need to announce every material developments.

“This is because material development is an obligation that needs to be fulfilled if one has the sufficient finance resources,” he said.
