A 70-year-old man is Singapore's third COVID-19 fatality
SINGAPORE – A 70-year-old Singaporean man has passed away from COVID-19 infection.
In a press statement, the Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed that he died on Sunday (29 March) at 12.12pm.
The man’s death was the third from COVID-19 in Singapore following two earlier deaths – a 75-year-old Singaporean woman and a 64-year-old Indonesian man – announced on 21 March.
The deceased, case 109, was admitted to Singapore General Hospital (SGH) on 29 February, and was confirmed to have COVID-19 infection on 2 March.
Prior to hospital admission, he had gone to work at Fish Mart Sakuraya (154 West Coast Road) but had not served customers or handled food. He lived at Everton Park.
He had been cared for in the intensive care unit (ICU) since he tested positive for the coronavirus. He developed serious complications and eventually succumbed to the infection after 27 days in the ICU, the MOH said.
The man, who had no recent travel history to affected countries and regions, had a history of hypertension and hyperlipidaemia – an abnormally high level of lipids, especially cholesterol, in the blood.
SGH has extended assistance to his family.
