911 Call Reveals Moments After Missing Student Riley Strain’s Body Was Found

The 22-year-old student, who went missing in Nashville on March 8, was found dead on Friday after a two-week search

The 911 call made after Riley Strain's body was found in the Cumberland River on Friday has been released.

Strain, a 22-year-old University of Missouri senior, was first reported missing on March 8 after he'd been out in Nashville with his Delta Chi fraternity members for the group's annual formal.

After a two-week search, the Metro Nashville Police Department confirmed the missing student's body had been found approximately 8 miles from downtown.

On Monday, the 911 call was released detailing the moments after the caller, who works at building material company Holcim, found the body in the river off 61st Avenue North.

“I have just found a dead body. I believe it to be Riley,” the caller told the dispatcher, per audio released by WSMV.

PEOPLE has contacted the Nashville Department of Emergency Communications for further information, but they did not immediately respond.

The Metro Nashville Police Department revealed Strain's body had been found in a statement on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Friday.

"The body of Riley Strain was recovered from the Cumberland River in West Nashville this morning, approximately 8 miles from downtown," the statement read. "No foul play-related trauma was observed. An autopsy is pending."

On Saturday, police said that the student's death was "accidental" and no evidence of foul play had been found, per local station WKRN.

Strain was reported missing on March 8 after he was asked to leave Luke's 32 Bridge Food + Drink, country singer Luke Bryan's restaurant and bar, according to a statement shared with PEOPLE on March 15 by the TC Restaurant Group, which oversees Bryan’s establishment.

"During Riley’s visit to Luke’s 32 Bridge, our records show he purchased and was served one alcoholic drink and two waters," the restaurant's statement explained. "At 9:35 p.m., our security team made a decision based on our conduct standards to escort him from the venue through our Broadway exit at the front of our building."

The statement continued, "He was followed down the stairs with one member of his party. The individual with Riley did not exit and returned upstairs."

Before Strain's body was found, his mother, 52-year-old Michelle Whiteid, spoke with PEOPLE about the last conversation they had before her son went missing.

"We FaceTimed for a while, and he was so excited," she said. “Then we hung up and he texted me and he was like, 'It was kind of hard to hear you, but I wanted you to see what was happening.' "

"I said, 'Well, you boys be safe. Make good choices. I love you guys.' And he said, 'I love you, too,' " she added. "And that’s it, that’s the last I have heard from him."
