The 9 best hair and beauty looks from the Emmys 2020

Like many things this year, the Emmy Awards were a little different than usual. In place of pre-pandemic luxuries, which we now can't help but feel we took for granted - namely a star-studded Los Angeles theater, brimming red carpet and packed live audience - the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night was an entirely virtual affair.

While the ceremony featured old shots of audiences from past shows, saw attendees live-streaming and accepting awards in their homes, one thing that was very much still in play was the plethora of show stopping beauty looks that graced our screens.

Virtual or not, A-listers came out (or rather stayed in) in their droves and served up the type of hair and beauty inspirations that are making us question our own Zoom look choices for the past six months. From Tracee Ellis Ross to Jennifer Aniston, here are the best beauty looks from this year's ceremony.

Tracee Ellis Ross

With a slicked back low bun (which she did herself using Pattern Beauty products, naturally), fresh-looking skin and a bold purple lip, Tracee Ellis Ross hit all the right notes for an at-home awards ceremony. Use Mac Cosmetic's Matte Lipstick in Heroine, £17.50, to recreate the look.

Zendaya

There were many reasons to celebrate Zendaya on Emmys night. The 24-year-old produced two stunning looks and made history by becoming the youngest ever winner of the award for Lead Actress in Drama, all in one night. Her second look of the night was paired with bold top and bottom liner, glossy skin and lips, and a messy bouffant-style bun with a middle parted fringe. Create the look with Ouai Haircare's Texturizing Hair Spray, £22.

Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston made an appearance both in studio and later at home via live-stream, with a few familiar faces. Her gorgeous glowy skin was complimented by signature beach waves, created by none other than her longtime hairstylist Chris McMillan - the artist responsible for “the Rachel”.

Ever the realist, Jenn took to Instagram to showcase her pre-Emmy skin prep game, with sheet masks front and centre. Use the 111 Skin Sub-Zero De-puffing Energy Facial Mask, £85, to prepare your skin for a big night.

Yvonne Orji

Aside from her immaculate base and stunning deep berry lips, the real beauty of Yvonne Orji's look was the Black Lives Matter symbol etched into the side of her hair.

Reese Witherspoon

Sometimes a simple red lip does the trick. Make-up artist Kelsey Deenihan created a warm neutral eye and a pop of matte red lips on Reese using Pat McGrath Labs essentials, including MatteTrance Lipstick in Elson, £33.

Yara Shahidi

Braids, looped tendrils and iridescent skin made Yara's look one for the books. Those obsessed with her dewy skin - as we are - should look no further than make-up artist Emily Cheng, who created the look using a skincare arsenal which included the Augustinus Bader Face Cream, £205.

Robin Thede

Subtle golden glam is always a guaranteed winner. Paired with her Hollywood waves, Robin's classic red carpet look is faultless. Try Charlotte Tilbury's Luxury Palette in Copper Charge, £40, for a warm shimmery look.

Regina King

Regina's curly, natural up-do and bold blue eyes were something to write home about. Created by make-up artist Latrice Johnson using Pat McGrath Labs products, like the PermaGel Ultra Glide Eye Pencil, £23, this look was both fierce and sultry.

Rachel Brosnahan

Opting for a minimal look, Rachel sported a wing liner which was kicked up a notch thanks to its metallic finish. Try it yourself with Tom Ford's Eye Khol Intense in Midnight, £29.
