'9-1-1' and 'Lone Star' Fans, a New Spinoff Series Is in the Works at ABC

Guess what 9-1-1 fans? It looks like we're leaving the 118 once again, as show co-creator Ryan Murphy dropped incredible news no one saw coming.

Ever since the hit drama originally aired on Fox back in January 2018, folks have fallen in love with a show surrounding the first responders of a unit of the Los Angeles Fire Department. What's more, the show's franchise expanded just two years later, with the premiere of 9-1-1: Lone Star in January 2020. Well, it looks like the world of 9-1-1 (now airing on ABC) is adding a new city to its growing list, as Ryan revealed to Variety he's working on a second spinoff that's set to air on ABC. And if that wasn't enough, it looks like fans will have the chance to see the new series sooner rather than later.

"[Co-creator] Tim Minear and I are working on a new spinoff that we're actually writing, and that we hope to get on the air next fall," he told the outlet on October 1. "We're going to launch a new show in a new city that I cant name, but it’s fun. And 9-1-1 moved to ABC and suddenly became, I think, the biggest show on Thursday night. [Fans] obviously have an appetite for that, so we're going to give them another one that I really love."

Although details are being kept at a minimum, this is certainly something thrilling for 9-1-1 fans! The news is also timely, as 9-1-1: Lone Star will wrap up with its fifth and final season airing right now on Fox.

So, what's the reason behind 9-1-1: Lone Star ending? As Ryan explained to the publication, there is a simple reason behind the show getting canceled. "Sadly, we all love 9-1-1: Lone Star, but the financials just didn't work," he said. "It's a Disney company that was on a Fox network, and it just was never going to work. And we had a long run of it."

Well, with this piece of information in our arsenal, we can only hold our breath until we find out which new city will be showing us their first responders fighting emergencies!
