From Cosmopolitan

'Staycation' has been the word of the year, thanks to coronavirus restrictions throwing international travel plans into disarray. From UK campsites to brilliant breaches in Wales; many of us have taken the opportunity to explore holiday destinations and travel opportunities a little closer to home.

And yet closer to hope doesn't always mean more affordable - you only have to look at some of the luxury accommodation in Devon and Cornwall to know staying near home can cost a fortune. Which is where these cheap holidays in the UK come in. Planning starts here!

6 cheap holidays (UK)

Rent a VW Campervan

From £525 for a week from Landcruise.uk, you could be the proud renter of a VW California Ocean, which sleeps four, and has a full kitchen and cooking area. Wicked Campers offers loads of different rental options, while Booking.com also have individual vans up for rent. What could be better than a road trip come holiday where you're in total control of where you go? Amazing.

Visit one of the UK's best city breaks

Who says you have to jump on a plane to immerse yourself in a brilliant city? The UK has SO many brilliant options (providing you respect coronavirus restrictions and avoid lockdown areas.) Some of London's best hotels are offering discounts right now, or you could check out Lastminute.com for some spontaneous deals.

A log cabin in Scotland

Immerse yourself in nature with a lodge or log cabin - some of which cost under £500 for the week and come with a hot tub. Sykes Cottages offer a week in The Isle Of Skye, Scotland, from £305, or maybe you fancy a romantic break to Lincolnshire from £373. What could be better than a winter walk followed by a roaring fire?

A b&b on the South Coast

You know what we were saying about cheap and cheerful? Brighton couldn't be more kitsch, thanks to its pier, fish and chips and the lanes full of individual shops, or head to Whistable for Oysters or Margate for Dreamland. While social distancing should still be a consideration, it's a great mini break away, and everywhere from Booking.com to Lastminute.com have great accommodation options.

Glamping in Wales

Camping might not feel like it's on the cards for much longer this year, but then again, who can predict what the weather's doing? Canopy and Stars offer incredible options like a cabin with a glass ceiling or a luxurious geodome, but for more affordable options. Hundred Rooms promise glamping from £40 a night, while Holidu have massive savings on last minute stays.

The National Trust stays

This one might feel a bit left field, but The National Trust offers hundreds of working holidays every year, ranging from building hedges and clearing canal banks to pruning and weeding vegetables, with cheap accommodation thrown in. This year's trips admittedly might look a little different due to coronavirus legislation, but worth keeping in mind for future opportunities.

We would like to do all of these things.
