Whether you’re beginning to go stir-crazy, feeling unbalanced or simply need a replacement for your usual gym classes, your health is more important now than ever before. While you can log onto Instagram or YouTube and find several live and on-demand workouts, there are other ways to stay on top of your health, ensuring your mind and body are looked after.

Meditation, a morning routine and getting your steps in (whether that’s walking around your home multiple times) are all listed as easy ways to not feel so impacted by spending the majority of your days inside the same four walls. If you’ve tried those methods and still find yourself struggling to find balance, there are plenty of other ways to make every day feel a little better.

While not every day needs to be overflowing with productivity and positivity, there are a few ways you can start your day off on the right foot – read more about them below.

Getting your heart rate up

If you’re struggling to wake up on the right side of the bed, scheduling a workout for first thing in the morning can be just what the doctor ordered. Getting your heart rate up shortly after you wake up will set the tone for the rest of the day. One easy way to do this while still adhering to government guidelines is with skipping. An activity often reserved for children, this is a fun way to get a quick cardio boost in and your body will thank you.

Staying on top of your daily vitamin D

Another easy addition to your morning routine is to incorporate vitamins. Now that the majority of us are meant to be staying indoors, access to vitamin D is far more limited. Helping regulate calcium and phosphate in the body, vitamin D helps keep bones, teeth and muscles healthy. Plus, vitamin D is the sunshine vitamin meaning it’ll help you feel happy for longer.

Building strength with at-home workouts

If you were an avid gym goer before this global pandemic, chances are you aren’t feeling quite how you used to since the gyms have closed. If you’re looking to maintain your fitness, avoid losing muscle mass or get in shape, at-home workouts can be a great way to look after your physical health while boosting your mental health. With plenty of workouts to choose from online, purchasing a single pair of dumbbells will come in handy.

Stretching it out with yoga

Yoga has been proven time and time again to be a practice for both your physical and mental health, and some days all it takes is a good stretching session to turn your day around. A practice perfect for when you’re feeling anxious or overwhelmed, yoga will help you become stronger while focusing on taking deep breaths. If sun salutations and downward dog sound like too much for you right now, restorative yoga is just as good for stretching the body and meditating.

Getting hourly movement in

When working from home – or simply relaxing at home – it can be easy to get sucked into an hours-long YouTube binge or a Netflix marathon. With what feels like an infinite amount of time in each day, it can be hard to remember to move your body and, while not many people are getting their 10,000 steps a day, it can be nice to have an hourly reminder to do something to move your body. Whether it’s a walk around your home or a quick play session with a pet, movement will improve your mood and help you feel like you’ve accomplished something on your to-do list. If you’ve been considering a Fitbit, you can even program it to give you hourly reminders to step away from your laptop.
