FLOORBALL SQUADS CLAIM MAIDEN WIN
The men’s and women’s national floorball teams have succeeded in ending their losing streak after two matches, when both squads recorded identical scores to defeat Indonesia 8-2 in the third round at College of Human Kinetics, Quezon City, Manila.
Earlier, the men’s national squad lost 6-13 to Thailand before succumbing 2-9 to Singapore while the women’s national squad lost 2-8 to Thailand and Singapore.
Both national teams are scheduled to complete the preliminary round against hosts Philippines on Friday.
Modern floorball began to gain popularity since 1986 in Sweden and the sport is now played in more than 80 countries.
Each team has five players and a goalkeeper and matches are played in three 20-minute periods.
WATER POLO TEAM SUFFERS ANOTHER BEATING
The men’s national water polo squad lost 5-17 to defending champions Singapore in their second preliminary round match at the Clark City Aquatic Centre in Clark.
Yesterday, Malaysia were crushed 5-19 by Thailand in the opening preliminary round.
The national team is scheduled to face Indonesia on Friday before meeting the host team two days later.
The women’s national squad is not taking part this time and the competition only involves Singapore, Thailand and Philippines.
