300 Prequel Series in Early Development, Zack Snyder in Talks to Direct

Warner Bros. Television has 300‘s number.

Sources confirm for TVLine that the studio is in the earliest stages of development on a TV series spun off of the Zack Snyder historical epic that in 2007 grossed nearly $500 million worldwide against a budget of $65 million, and spawned a far less lucrative 2014 sequel, 300: Rise of an Empire.

Our sister site Variety, which was first to report on the prospective series, hears that it would serve as a prequel to the events of the original motion picture starring Gerard Butler.

No writer in place and zero deals have been done, TVLine hears, but Warner Bros. would aim to reunite Snyder (as director) and his producing partner/wife Deborah Snyder with the 300 production team of Gianni Nunnari, Mark Canton and Bernie Goldmann, along with Wesley Coller from the Snyders’ production company.

At this very early stage of development, there are no storyline details to be had.

WBTV declined to comment.

Zack Snyder’s previous TV credits include Netflix’s Army of the Dead movie (as writer/director) and its follow-up Army of Thieves (which he co-wrote), the two-part Netflix sci-fo opus Rebel Moon, the Netflix animated series Twilight of the Gods (which is due for a fall release and on which he serves as co-creator, exec producer and a director of some episodes), and — if you want to count it, and we very much willZack Snyder’s Justice League aka #TheSnyderCut of the 2017 Justice League film, which debuted on Max in March 2021.
