PARIS (Reuters) -The French parliament on Monday approved a bill which will make COVID-19 vaccinations mandatory for health workers as well as require a bolstered health pass in a wide array of social venues as France battles with a fourth wave of coronavirus infections. Visitors heading to museums, cinemas or swimming pools in France are already denied entry if they cannot produce a pass showing that they have been vaccinated against COVID-19 or have had a recent negative test. From around 4,000 new cases a day at the start of July, daily infections in France have gradually increased, topping 22,000 last week, with hospitalizations also on the rise.

A man accused of attempting to stab Mali's interim President Assimi Goita last week has died in hospital while in the custody of security services, the government said in a statement on Sunday. Goita, a special forces colonel who orchestrated two coups in the last year, escaped unharmed after the assailant tried to stab him during prayers at a mosque in the capital Bamako on Tuesday. Security agents threw a man into the back of a military pickup truck, video obtained by Reuters showed, as Goita was ringed by bodyguards.
If you thought "Army of the Dead" would be a one-and-done story, you were very wrong. Netflix has had a whole franchise in the works since before that film dominated the streamer's charts. There's an animated prequel series on the way, along with a live-action prequel film focusing on the safecracker Ludwig Dieter called "Army of Thieves" -- which we just got a sick trailer for during the film's Comic-Con@Home panel. You can watch it in the embed above. We've got good news for those weren't into
The European Union is sending four forest firefighting planes to Sardinia in response to a request from Italy to help tame fires that have swept across parts of the island, prompting the evacuation of hundreds of people. Two of the Canadair planes, amphibious planes used to pick up water to drop on fires, are provided by France from the European Civil Protection Pool and two by Greece from the resources of the rescEU programme, the European Commission said. Seven Canadair aircraft were already at work in the area, the Italian civil protection authority said.
TOKYO (Reuters) -The men's Olympic triathlon suffered a rare and embarrassing false start on Monday as half the field dived in while the others were blocked off by a boat, leading to some frantic action from associated craft to get the message over to the initially unaware swimmers. Fifty-six men lined up on a pontoon in Tokyo Bay for the 06.30 local start but as the starter sent them away for the opening 1,500 metre swim leg, around a third found their way blocked by a camera boat. With those left on the pontoon stranded, a mini-flotilla of boats and jet skis flew into action to head off the group, with around half of them still ploughing on regardless despite the alert horn sounding repeatedly.

Ted Lasso's down home Wichita charm is, apparently, something Diane Sawyer just cannot resist. The virtual flirting between Jason Sudeikis' Apple TV+ character and the legendary broadcast journalist began during Friday night's episode when Ted walked into a room and Rebecca asks him, "What do you say to a cocktail?" "The same thing I'd say to Diane Sawyer if she ever asked me out on a date: yes, please," he answered. Sawyer posted the clip Sunday with a short and sweet response. Let's just say,

Those ticket sales put “Snake Eyes” in second place […]

TUNIS (Reuters) -Tunisia's president dismissed the government and froze parliament on Sunday, prompting crowds to fill the capital in support of a move that dramatically escalated a political crisis, but that his opponents called a coup. President Kais Saied said he would assume executive authority with the assistance of a new prime minister, in the biggest challenge yet to a 2014 democratic constitution that split powers between president, prime minister and parliament. However, the extent of support for Saied's moves against a fragile government and divided parliament was not clear and he warned against any violent response.
