25-Year-Old Woman in Australia Who Went to Hospital with Severe Headaches Dies Days After Losing Baby Girl

A 25-year-old woman from Queensland, Australia who was suffering from headaches died days after losing her baby girl despite her initial tests reportedly coming back clear.

A GoFundMe page said that Olivia Harlow, who also went by the name Liv, died on Monday, June 24 "due to a medical episode." "Prior to Liv's passing, sadly [her partner] Ryan and Olivia also lost their second daughter Adeline on the 16th of June," Stefanie Harlow, Olivia's sister-in-law and the campaign organizer, wrote.

"Respectfully, further details of both their passings are unable to be shared at this time as we as a family are still awaiting those answers. Understandably, this has taken its toll on the family and has come as a huge shock," Stephanie continued.

Per the Daily Mail Australia, Olivia — who also shared 4-year-old daughter Evaliah with Ryan Stephenson — visited the Royal Brisbane Hospital for headaches and blurred vision. Olivia, who was 34 weeks pregnant at the time, was sent away after tests gave her the all-clear.

Two weeks later, Olivia noticed that her baby wasn't moving, Stefanie told the Daily Mail. "They did a scan, bub had passed away," Stephanie said.

Per the outlet, Olivia was reportedly discharged from the hospital a few nights after giving birth on June 16, but she was still suffering from headaches. Despite feeling ill, doctors reportedly didn't think the symptoms warranted any more tests being done.

"They said she was probably still stressed from what she had gone through and pretty much sent her on her way," Stefanie told the Daily Mail, adding, "The next day Olivia was found by her partner in her room unresponsive so they rushed her to the hospital on life support."

While back in hospital, Olivia was declared brain-dead after subsequent scans revealed brain tumors. Her life support machine was turned off on June 24, the outlet reported.

"Stumped as to why she was turned away so many times and no one did anything," Stefanie told the outlet that they're having more tests done — but that it could be up to two years before her family gets any answers.

"She was only 25, she was otherwise fit and healthy. We shouldn't have to be in this position where we're putting her to rest. It's a bit of a medical mystery," Stefanie continued, adding that after doctors didn't have an explanation for what happened. "In 26 days she had nothing and then all of sudden she was riddled [with tumors]... They've never seen anything like it."

In a statement obtained by PEOPLE, a Metro North Health spokesperson said that "our deepest sympathies and condolences go to the family of Ms Harlow at this incredibly difficult time."

"Metro North Health will work with the family to ensure they receive the support they need," the spokesperson added. "As with any unexpected death, we are actively looking into the care provided. This matter has been referred to the Coroner."

Stefanie, who gave birth to a baby girl with the middle name Alivia the day after Olivia's death, paid tribute to her sister-in-law on the GoFundMe page, which has raised just over $14,000 (almost $21,000 AUD) as of Monday, July 8. "Olivia was the most caring and loving mother, partner, daughter, grand daughter, sister, niece, cousin and friend anyone could ever have asked for," she wrote.

"I am reaching out on behalf of the family to help raise some funds to give Liv and Adeline the send off they both deserve and to help ease the financial burden off Ryan so he is able to take his time to grieve and be there for Evaliah while they come to terms with the sudden change of their lives," she continued.

"On behalf of the family I'd like to thank everyone for their support, kind words and messages. We will post details of the funeral as soon as it has been finalized," Stephanie concluded.
