Yahoo Sports’ Lead NFL Draft Analyst Eric Edholm reveals which teams he believes had a successful day 2 and which teams didn’t. Edholm’s top team didn’t make a pick in round one, while his least favorite day 2 selections came from a team that enjoyed a stellar day 1.
ERIC EDHOLM: I'm Eric Edholm, lead draft analyst here at Yahoo Sports. And it's time to wrap up day two with the NFL draft. It's in the books. We've got winners and losers. Let's start with the winners.
I really like what the Ravens did. David Ojabo, Travis Jones-- two great values on their defensive line. Strong round one. I also like the Chiefs' too. Skyy Moore's a more help on defense.
They're getting tough on that side of the ball. But my biggest winner is actually the Indianapolis Colts. May not think of them right away, but I thought they got the most bang for their buck on day two after not having a first-round pick. Four selections on Friday night. Bernhard Raimann, the Central Michigan tackle has starting potential.
He's a bit older at 25 years old, but I love his balance, love his flexibility. Really strong character and work ethic. Perfect Colts pick right there. But the one I love the most, Jelani Woods, tight end, Virginia. Didn't do much his first three years in college at Oklahoma State. But when he got to Virginia, they threatened the scene with him, threw him a lot of passes, scored eight touchdowns in eight different games this past year.
Really loved his combine workout too. I think he's just beginning to scratch the surface as a dual-threat tight end. Think of a young Marcedes Lewis. Also got Nick Cross, a really aggressive, fast, young safety, not even 21 years old. And Alec Pierce, a nice complementary receiver from Cincinnati.
So all told, they did really well for themselves. Got to turn to the losers, unfortunately. There wasn't wild about what the 49ers did. Didn't think their draft really made a whole lot of sense. And the Patriots, after taking Cole Strange in round one, had a couple of more strange picks. Curious picks, if you will.
But my least favorite moves of day two, and this hurts me to say it, it's the New York Giants. I love their first-round picks. I thought they did a great job with Kayvon Thibodeaux and Evan Neal. And they did come back with a pretty nice guard at North Carolina, Joshua Ezeudu. I think he's going to be a rising player.
But I did not understand the picks of Wan'Dale Robinson and Cordale Flott. Two smaller frame guys, and we're talking small, small by NFL standards. And I thought both were reaches by at least around, if not two.
Those are our winners and losers. And for all your NFL draft, news, and notes, keep it right here at Yahoo Sports.
