An 18-year-old man was killed after Russian shelling hit a neighborhood in Kherson, Ukraine, on Thursday, January 5, Governor of Kherson Oblast Yaroslav Yanushevich said.
Footage posted by Suspilne News shows what they said was the aftermath of the strike. A house was destroyed and the young man was found under the rubble, Suspilne reported.
In a Google translation of the interview featured in the video, taken from Suspilne’s website, Ivan, a friend of the man who died in the strike, said: “We were leaving the house, he was in front of me. After he opened the door, there was an explosion. I was thrown a couple of meters back into the house, and that saved me.”
Ivan said he survived because his friend took the brunt of the explosion.
On the same day, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said a fire station was targeted in a separate shelling attack by Russian forces. There were no reported injuries in that attack. Credit: Suspilne News via Storyful
