1,443 new COVID cases in Singapore, three more deaths
SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Saturday (25 September) confirmed 1,443 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore – taking the country's total case count to 85,953 – and three more deaths due to the disease.
Singapore's 74th to 76th COVID-19 fatalities were three Singaporeans: two men aged 71 and 62, and one woman aged 71. The older man was fully vaccinated, the younger man was partially vaccinated while the woman was not vaccinated. Their deaths bring the total fatalities this month to 21.
The 62-year-old man died on Saturday after having tested positive for COVID-19 infection on 6 September. He had been partially vaccinated against COVID-19, and had a history of diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipaemia.
The 71-year-old man died on Friday after having tested positive for COVID-19 infection on 8 September. He had been vaccinated against COVID-19, and had a history of atrial fibrillation, thyrotoxicosis and hyperlipaemia which, together with his advanced age, made him more susceptible to severe illness, MOH said.
The 71-year-old woman died on Saturday after having tested positive for COVID-19 infection on 14 September. She had not been vaccinated against COVID-19, and had a history of diabetes, end stage renal failure, hypertension and hyperlipidaemia.
Of Saturday's new cases, 1,424 are local infections including 1,053 in the community and 371 dormitory residents. Among the local cases are 280 people above the age of 60, said the MOH.
The remaining 19 new cases are imported, of whom 14 were detected upon their arrival in Singapore, while five developed the illness during their stay-home notice or isolation period.
MOH highlighted seven large clusters with new cases including 24 new cases at Blue Stars Dormitory, bringing its total to 243, and two new cases at DHL Supply Chain Advanced Regional Centre, bringing its total to 103.
As of Saturday, 1,142 COVID-19 cases are currently warded in hospital, most of whom are well and under observation. There are currently 165 cases of serious illness requiring oxygen supplementation, and 27 in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU). Of those who have fallen very ill, 158 are seniors above 60 years.
Over the last 28 days, the percentage of local cases who were asymptomatic or had mild symptoms is 97.9 per cent. A total of 326 cases required oxygen supplementation and 37 had been in the ICU. Of these, 52.9 per cent were fully vaccinated and 47.1 per cent were unvaccinated or partially vaccinated. Nineteen died during this period, of whom 31.6 per cent were fully vaccinated and 68.4 per cent were unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.
As of Friday, about 9.07 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered under the national vaccination programme. Some 4.59 million have received at least one dose of the vaccine, with some 4.47 million having completed the full vaccination regimen.
Separately, 190,738 doses of other vaccines recognised in the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Listing (WHO EUL) have been administered as of Friday, covering 87,322 individuals.
This means 82 per cent of Singapore's population have completed their full regimen or received two doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and 84 per cent have received at least one dose.
