12,964 Affordable Homes At Various Implementation Stages In Sarawak
Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Abd Muttalib said a total of 12,964 affordable housing (RMM) units were at various stages of implementation in Sarawak since July 2018 until 30 September 2020.
Of these, 5,037 units are at the planning stage, 3,969 units are under construction, while 3,958 units are completed by three housing agencies comprising the private developers as well as the federal and state governments, reported Bernama.
“Of the total, the provision of RMM under the ministry is 9,864 units, comprising 3,133 units at the planning stage, 2,895 under construction and 3,836 completed,” he said during the winding up debate on the Supply Bill 2021 for the ministry.

He revealed that the ministry plans to build affordable homes nationwide by coordinating the RMM via the implementation of various housing programmes and schemes, such as the Civil Servants Housing Programme (PPAM), People’s Housing Programme (PPR), Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia (PR1MA) housing as well as Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB).
Ismail noted that eight PPR projects involving 4,140 housing units had been completed in Sarawak. Three other projects are still ongoing and involve 1,112 units, he said.
For the PPAM, two projects involving 544 units were completed as at last October, three projects involving 711 units were under construction and two others comprising 538 unit were at approval stage, he added.
Meanwhile, two of the three PR1MA projects in Sarawak – Residensi Bintawa Riverfront and Residensi Matang – were completed as of December 2020. Phase 1 of Residensi Semenggoh, on the other hand, is under construction while Phase 2 is at the planning stage.
On the People-Friendly Homes (RMR), Ismail said 3,000 housing units will be built nationwide under Budget 2021 and offered to applicants on the waiting list, which include 488 in Sarawak.
Sarawak saw 1,633 approved applications, with 1,438 units already completed and 195 still under construction.
