111 new COVID cases in Singapore, 25 unlinked

SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Monday (2 August) reported 111 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore, taking the country's total case count to 65,213.

It also confirmed Singapore's 38th and youngest COVID-19 related fatality, a 34-year-old man from Ukraine.

There are 106 new locally transmitted infections, of whom 25 are unlinked. The ministry did not provide a breakdown of how many of them are in the community or are dormitory residents.

Among the local cases are seven cases above the age of 70 who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and are at risk of serious illness.

Also detected were five imported infections, of whom three were detected upon arrival here, while two developed the illness during their stay-home notice or isolation period.

Ten new clusters were announced on Monday, all of whom are named after case numbers of COVID-19 patients. The MOH did not provide any details on the cases the clusters are named after, which are linked to 47 cases altogether. The largest new cluster, named after Case 66567, is linked to 17 cases.

This brings the total number of active COVID-19 clusters here to 93, with the largest at the Jurong Fishery Port. On Monday, 24 new cases were added to the cluster at the port, now linked to 1,072 cases.

No new infections were added to Singapore's second-largest cluster, linked to various KTVs, which has 251 cases.

Separately, three cases were added to the cluster at Westlite Mandai Dormitory, which is now linked to eight infections.

The MOH also noted that the number of new cases in the community has decreased from 1,021 in the week before to 835 in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has increased from 133 in the week before to 276 in the past week.

It added that the seven-day moving average number of all linked community cases and all unlinked community cases are 79.9 and 39.4 respectively.

36 require oxygen supplementation; 7 in ICU

At least 62,733 cases in Singapore, or over 99 per cent of the overall total, have fully recovered from their infection and have been discharged from the hospital.

As of Monday, 602 cases are currently warded, most of whom are well and under observation.

There are currently 36 cases of serious illness requiring oxygen supplementation and seven in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Four among the 43 cases are fully vaccinated – three requires oxygen supplementation while one requires ICU care as they have underlying medical conditions, said the MOH.

Among them are also 31 seniors above the age of 60, of whom 28 are completely unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, have fallen very ill, it added.

Apart from the 38 patients who have died from COVID-19 complications, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.

Over the last 28 days, 61 local cases required oxygen supplementation, were admitted to the ICU, or died. Of them, 37 are unvaccinated, 20 are partially vaccinated and four are fully vaccinated.

As of Sunday, about 7.64 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered under the national vaccination programme. Some 4.31 million have received at least one dose of the vaccine, with 3.45 million having completed the full vaccination regimen.

This means that 61 per cent of the population have completed their full regimen, or received two doses of COVID-19 vaccines under the national vaccination programme, and 77 per cent have received at least one dose.

Those who have received the Sinovac's CoronaVac vaccine locally are not included in Singapore's national vaccination numbers. As of Sunday, 107,730 doses of the China-made vaccine have been administered to 74,935 individuals.
