Hollyoaks spoilers follow.
It's an exciting time to be a Hollyoaks fan, as the show will finally be returning to its five-nights-per-week schedule this month. To celebrate, the Channel 4 soap has released a dramatic new trailer previewing all of the biggest upcoming storylines.
Check out our guide to the juiciest revelations from the trailer right here.
1. Silas threatens to kill Mercedes
2021 starts off with a bang for the McQueen family as Silas goes ahead with his cruel plan to kidnap Bobby. With the youngster in his clutches, Silas uses Bobby as leverage to lure Mercedes to the folly for a frightening showdown.
As the old enemies come face-to-face once more, sly Silas boasts that Mercedes is his "final girl" and threatens to kill her. Mercy has escaped from Silas's grasp several times before, but is her luck about to run out?
2. Ste is James's new love interest
Ste struck up a surprising bond with James when he returned to the village last year, but this unlikely friendship will now turn to more. Hollyoaks' new trailer shows James's mum Marnie teasing him about how he appears to have feelings for Ste, who starts working as a cleaner for the Nightingales.
Marnie appears to be bang on the money with this one, as another spoiler clip shows James appearing to invite Ste to stay over for the night.
3. George turns violent with John Paul
Eagle-eyed fans have already spotted the tell-tale signs that George has a darker side, so it's no real surprise to see the policeman showing his true colours in the new promo.
George's anger rises when Nancy confronts him over his failure to properly tackle the village's drugs problem. He's particularly livid with John Paul for not defending him in front of Nancy.
During a row later on, the situation turns violent as George punches John Paul. Viewers already know that George was abusive to his previous partner Dean and it seems that he has sadly found another victim.
4. Trish Minniver returns to the village – but she's not alone
Trish is the mum of established regular Maxine, and previously appeared on the show between 2010 and 2012 in storylines with Maxine's sister Mitzeee. Show bosses are billing the new-look Trish as a "larger than life character, who is set to ruffle a few feathers".
Trish shocks Maxine by moving to the village with her charming boyfriend Brad, played by Tom Benedict Knight. Brad is also Maxine's new landlord and appears flirtatious with her in the trailer – seems like things are about to get complicated.
5. Brody proposes to Sienna
Brody tries to put the difficulties of 2020 behind him by proposing to Sienna. He's still unaware of his partner's recent passion with Warren, who's fighting hard to win back Sienna on a more permanent basis.
To make matters even more complicated, Brody has his head turned by newcomer Summer as they share a secret kiss. Sienna wastes no time before warning off her new love rival and trying to mark her territory.
6. Sienna's affair is exposed
Summer doesn't take Sienna's threats lightly and seizes her chance to retaliate when she spots her love rival kissing Warren.
Before long, Brody has a damning picture on his phone which exposes Sienna's betrayal. Sienna is lost for words as Brody confronts her and demands to know whether she has been having an affair.
7. Toby's frightening behaviour continues
Toby is on cloud nine as he enjoys the early stages of his relationship with Cleo and the admiration he's getting for his plans to help solve Walter's health crisis. He boasts that he's the new "golden boy" of the Deveraux family following Mitchell's departure, but Felix won't let him forget his past crimes so easily.
Toby soon has reason to feel betrayed by Cleo following her kiss with Joel and their relationship turns sour. Martine also finds herself in Toby's firing line when he locks her in the garage, leaving her shaken by his behaviour.
8. Verity is pregnant
Verity shares some exciting news at the start of the year, announcing that she's pregnant.
The revelation solidifies her bond with her boyfriend Sami, while Tony is excited over his kids having a new cousin to play with in the future. However, the show has teased that everything may not be as it seems.
9. Tony and Diane get their relationship back on track
Tony and Diane's marriage was torn apart by evil Edward last year, but his death-by-mince-pie catastrophe provides the perfect opportunity for them to move on with their lives.
Tony and Diane appear to be closer than ever as they rush home from the restaurant to spend the night together. Can they forget about the damage done by Tony's ruthless father?
10. Yazz pursues a story that's close to home
Yazz puts her journalistic skills to good use by deciding to investigate the recent drugs problems in the village, but her plans for a hard-hitting feature threaten to stir up old wounds.
Mandy warns off Yazz from making the situation any worse when so many people in the village are hoping to heal. However, viewers know that Mandy has a major ulterior motive here, not wanting anyone to dig too deep and find out that Ella was responsible for Jordan's death.
11. Victor's reign of terror isn't over
Jordan may be gone, but Victor isn't prepared to give up on Hollyoaks and continues to cause problems for the younger characters in the village. When he catches up with Ella, he continues to give her orders and warns her to do everything he says.
Sid tries his best to help, but ends up being ordered into a car boot by Victor.
Hollyoaks currently airs new episodes on Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4. The show returns to five nights from the week commencing Monday, January 18.
