After an incredibly tense election (won by Joe Biden) back in November, it was decided that Donald Trump's time in the White House should come to an end. An extremely controversial figure, he's managed to fit a lot in to his four years as President of the United States (as has his wife, Melania) and some of it, dare we say, we might even miss? Not all the sexist remarks, obviously, but some of the funnier photo ops.
Although it's unlikely that Trump will completely disappear into oblivion after his career change, he'll likely no longer be invited to meet members of the royal family in a formal capacity. So in honour of him gearing up to step down from his position of power, we've decided to take a look back at all of the most awkward photos that arose from the Trumps meeting the likes of HRH The Queen and co.
Disclaimer: please keep in mind that this article is very much intended to be tongue-in-cheek; one picture of an interaction is just that... a one second snapshot. Okay, let's go!
1) The Queen looking very bored by Trump's joke (5 June 2019)
At least, that's what we imagine is taking place here. Pictured together at the D Day Commemorations in Portsmouth, we're really enjoying the fact that it looks as thought Her Majesty has drifted off. Awkward.
2) The Queen on a day out with her parents (3 June 2019)
While welcoming the Trumps to London at Buckingham Palace, The Queen was snapped between the couple and sorry, but why does it look like she's on day trip with her mum and dad somewhere? Too cute. And awkward.
3) Major school photo vibes (3 December 2019)
During a reception for NATO leaders, President Trump, Prince Charles and The Queen, along with a host of other Very Important People, squashed in together for what looks like the most uncomfy class picture of all time. LOL.
4) The Queen is bored... again (3 June 2019)
Boujee banquet for Trump's UK visit, or no boujee banquet, Queen Elizabeth II looks very over the whole situation. We like to imagine that inside her head is a Homer Simpson-esque monkey on a unicycle, clapping symbols to the sound of some circus music.
5) A mother and her two children? (5 June 2019)
Whilst The Queen is obviously Prince Charles's actual mother, this picture for some reason is giving us major 'mum and her two children, one of whom has spilt something on himself, which the other is pleased about' vibes. Do you see it?
6) The Von Trapp children awaiting the rest of their siblings (3 December 2019)
All together now! Doe, a deer, a female deer, rayyyyy a drop of golden sun! Etc.
7) Camilla's 'help me' eyes (4 June 2019)
As the Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Charles's wife, Camilla Parker Bowles has met the Trumps on a few occasions. Whilst we're sure in real life that she and Melania had plenty to talk about, this picture gave us a giggle as Camilla looks ever so slightly like she's desperate for her phone to ring with an "emergency" so she can skip out early.
8) Trump isn't into Prince Andrew's handshakes (3 June 2019)
In fairness, due to their shared connection to Jeffrey Epstein (they were pictured together at a party hosted by the multi-millionaire predator in 2000), we can see why Trump might have looked a little stilted around Prince Andrew during his state visit. His face here looks comically disapproving as Melania and Andrew greet one another (but in actuality, he and Andrew were also pictured chatting away later that day too, so it's just a funny fluke shot).
9) Ivanka Trump and Prince Harry having a great time (3 June 2019)
During the state visit, Ivanka also dropped in with her father to Buckingham Palace, where Prince Harry was amongst the royals ready to say hello to the American family. Now, this picture (due to the fact that Trump called Harry's wife, Meghan Markle, "nasty") truly is just awkward and it's reported that Harry deliberately avoided being snapped with the President during his UK visit.
10) The Trumps and Sarah Ferguson do fashion together (7 February 2007)
Way back before he entered politics, the Donmeister Trumpington was pictured with his wife, Melania, sitting next to Sarah Ferguson (Prince Andrew's ex and the mother of Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice) during a Michael Kors fashion show. He's giving it his best blue steel here, as you can see.
11) Trump has a very, very funny menu (4 June 2019)
Featuring a bonus guest appearance from then-Prime Minister, Theresa May, as well as Prince Charles, we're particularly enjoying how baffled Trump looks by something on the menu here. Marmite, perhaps? Beans on toast with ketchup? That's what they eat in palaces, right?
