At least five people were injured on Monday when Iraqi security forces wielding clubs broke up a street protest in Baghdad's central Tahrir Square, security and hospital sources said. Pope Francis plans a March 5-8 visit to Iraq despite deteriorating security in some parts of the country which has seen the first big suicide bombing in Baghdad for three years. About 200 people protested in Tahrir Square in a reaction to security force violence against protesters in the southern city of Nassiriya on Friday that left at least eight demonstrators dead and some 250 injured.

A Canadian dad revealed his tips for building the perfect snow shelter after he hollowed out a small cave for himself in a huge snow bank.In this footage, Montreal resident David Freiheit demonstrates how to build a quinzhee, a snow shelter made from a large pile of loose snow.In this video, Freiheit explains how he shoveled around four feet of snow from the roof of his apartment building onto the sidewalk.After leaving it to harden overnight, Freiheit said he then used a variety of garden tools to shape and hollow out the structure. An American father and son wanted by Japan for aiding former Nissan Motor Co. Chairman Carlos Ghosn escape from the country in a box were handed over to Japanese custody Monday, ending their months-long battle to stay in the U.S. Michael Taylor and his son, Peter Taylor, failed to convince U.S. officials and courts to block their extradition to Japan, where they will be tried on charges that they smuggled Ghosn out of the country in 2019 while the former auto titan was awaiting trial on financial misconduct charges. The Massachusetts men, who have been locked up at a suburban Boston jail since their arrest in May, were handed over to Japanese officials early Monday, said one of their attorneys, Paul Kelly.

Prime Minister Mario Draghi on Monday fired Italy's special COVID-19 commissioner Domenico Arcuri and replaced him with an army logistics expert, in a signal the government wanted to speed up vaccinations. The move followed growing complaints about Arcuri's handling of the crisis and concern that the anti-COVID vaccine campaign was moving forward too slowly. It is one of Draghi's first major decisions since becoming premier last month and follows his firing last week of the chief of the civil protection agency.
Zimbabwe Vice President Kembo Mohadi resigned on Monday saying this was meant to save the image of the government following local media reports he had engaged in improper conduct. Mohadi, along with Constantino Chiwenga, was a deputy to President Emmerson Mnangagwa since 2018, but without a political power base, he was not seen as a potential successor to the president. In a rare move by a public official in Zimbabwe, Mohadi said he had taken the decision to step down "not as a matter of cowardice but as a sign of demonstrating great respect to the office of the President."
Nearly two thirds of Russians are not willing to receive Russia's Sputnik V vaccine, and about the same number believe the new coronavirus was created artificially as a biological weapon, an independent pollster said on Monday. The Levada Center said a poll it conducted last month showed that 62% of people did not want to get Russia's domestically produced vaccine, and that the highest level of reluctance was identified among 18 to 24-year-olds. The poll, which sampled 1,601 people in 50 regions, also found that 64% of people thought the new coronavirus was created as a biological weapon.
Police in DeLand, Florida, said they rescued a 73-year-old woman from a car in a pond on February 27.Bodycam footage released by Volusia Sheriff’s Office shows officers heading into the water and bringing the woman out of the vehicle and onto shore.“The first deputy on scene, Nicholas Maletto, headed into the water and was soon joined by Deputy Patrick O’Melia.
