Forest fires in the southern Turkish province of Antalya forced evacuations of residents in the Manavgat district, local media reported on July 28.At least two fires broke out in Manavgat on Thursday, both of which were being investigated by authorities.According to Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), 19 helicopters and one plane were being deployed. The city of Berkeley will start serving vegan food at public events, jails, senior centers and other city buildings after the city council approved an ordinance that calls for the progressive city to cut by half its spending on animal-based products by 2024. The first-of-its-kind measure approved Tuesday and co-authored by Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguín requires the city to offer plant-based foods, including vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds at public buildings.

A New York City plumber who's moonlighted as a fringe political candidate is in hot water for allegedly storming the U.S. Capitol during January's insurrection, boasting about it on social media and then trying to cover his tracks. Daniel Christmann, a 38-year-old who screamed at the city's current Republican mayoral nominee during a debate two years ago, was arrested Wednesday at his Brooklyn home after the FBI was alerted to videos on his Instagram feed showing rioters inside the Capitol on Jan. 6, prosecutors said. Christmann was seen on security camera footage climbing through a Capitol window and later acknowledged he was there when someone on Instagram asked if he had “stormed the capitol," prosecutors said.
