The Premier League is the richest league in the world and a lot of the star players are on incredibly lucrative contracts. 

The likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City are all willing to offer huge pay packets to help convince players to join their clubs.

Using data from Spotrac, we’ve taken a look at the 10 Premier League players with the highest weekly wage.

Note: all figures mentioned are before tax and do not include the array of bonuses that are included in the fine print of every contract.

10. Kalidou Koulibaly – £295,000

During his eight years at Serie A side Napoli, Koulibaly forged a reputation as one of the best central defenders in European football.

He was regularly linked with a Premier League switch and finally realised that dream by joining Chelsea in a £33m deal last summer.

The 31-year-old replaced Antonio Rudiger at Stamford Bridge and signed a four-year contract worth around £295,000 per week.

But he’s struggled to justify that huge pay packet during a turbulent debut season in England and has made a series of nervy and error-strewn displays.

=8. Casemiro – £300,000

Casemiro played an integral role in Real Madrid’s success last season, helping them win La Liga and the Champions League.

The midfielder subsequently raised eyebrows when he decided to leave Real and join a Manchester United side that had failed to qualify for the Champions League.

His reported wages of £300,000-per-week led to speculation that he only signed for a massive payday but the Brazil international insisted that the money was not part of his thinking in accepting the switch.

“Those who think that don’t know me,” he said. “I’m not like that. If it was for money, then I could have left four or five years ago. The club always acted well with me. It was my decision. It was simply the feeling that my cycle here had come to an end. This was clear to me.”

The 31-year-old’s actions have backed up his words as he’s already had a transformative effect on United’s fortunes.

However, the Brazilian could end up costing United a top-four place after his latest red card.

=8. Jack Grealish – £300,000

Grealish left boyhood club Aston Villa and joined Manchester City in a £100m deal in 2021, becoming the most expensive British footballer of all time.

The England international then got a significant wage increase, going from £125,000-per-week at Villa Park to £300,000-per-week at the Etihad.

He had an underwhelming debut season at City but still finished the 2021/22 campaign with a Premier League winners’ medal in his pocket and is now starting to rediscover his best form.

Alongside his £300,000-per-week wages, the 27-year-old will also earn £10m a year from Puma after signing the most lucrative boot deal in British history.

7. Raheem Sterling – £325,000

After spending seven seasons at Manchester City, Sterling opted for a new challenge and joined Chelsea in a £47.5m deal last summer.

The winger put pen to paper on a five-year deal which is worth £325,000-per-week, making him the highest-paid player at Stamford Bridge.

He has had a mixed debut season at Chelsea, registering seven goals and three assists across his opening 26 games for the west London club.

Despite recent reports linking him with a move to Arsenal, the 28-year-old is totally committed to Chelsea and there are no plans to review his future in the summer.

6. Raphael Varane – £340,000

Varane’s move to Manchester United in the summer of 2021 saw his wage packet double after he was reportedly paid £170,000-per-week at Real Madrid.

He arrived at Old Trafford with some serious pedigree, having won three La Liga titles, four Champions Leagues and the World Cup.

The former France international endured an injury-plagued debut season at United but has since rediscovered his best form and forged a promising centre-back partnership with Lisandro Martinez.

=4. Jadon Sancho – £350,000

After a drawn-out transfer saga, Manchester United finally signed Sancho from Borussia Dortmund in a £73m deal in the summer of 2021.

Alongside the transfer fee, United also shelled out a significant pay packet as they are giving the England international £350,000-per-week.

While he’s shown glimpses of his talent at Old Trafford, Sancho has struggled to replicate his Bundesliga form in the Premier League and is yet to cement a place in Erik ten Hag’s team.

4. Mohamed Salah – £350,000

After months upon months of speculation about a potential Liverpool exit, Salah committed his future to the Reds last summer by putting pen to paper on a new three-year contract.

The deal saw his wages go from £200,000-per-week to £350,000-per-week, making him the highest-paid player in the club’s illustrious history.

Having scored 156 goals in 254 appearances during his first five seasons at Anfield, the 30-year-old undoubtedly deserved the pay rise.

While some players rest on their laurels after signing a lucrative contract, Salah continues to impress and he recently became Liverpool’s all-time top goalscorer in the Premier League.

=2. David de Gea – £375,000

De Gea has been one of Manchester United’s standout performers during the turbulent post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, winning the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award four times.

The Spain international became the highest-paid goalkeeper in the world in 2019 when he signed a four-year deal worth £375,000 per week.

But errors have since begun to creep into his game and there are still question marks over his suitability to Ten Hag’s system.

His contract is set to expire at the end of the season and The Athletic report that he’ll have to take a significant pay-cut if he wants to extend his stay at Old Trafford.

2. Erling Haaland – £375,000

Manchester City won the race for Haaland’s signature last summer after triggering the £51.2m release clause in his Borussia Dortmund contract.

Having signed Haaland for around a third of his market value, City agreed to make him one of their highest earners and are paying the 21-year-old a base salary of £375,000-per-week.

The striker is worth every penny and has taken the Premier League by storm, scoring 28 goals in his first 26 games in the competition.

According to reports, Haaland’s contract also includes a number of relatively straightforward bonuses which could take his wage up to £865,000-per-week.

1. Kevin De Bruyne – £400,000

After Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United contract was terminated by mutual consent in November 2022, De Bruyne took his place as the Premier League’s highest earner.

The Manchester City midfielder last signed a contract extension in April 2021, which took his pay up to the £400,000-per-week mark.

He’s since justified that wage increase by winning the Premier League Player of the Season award in 2021/22 while also finishing third in the 2022 Ballon d’Or rankings.
