Golf-OneAsia Tour appoints global marketing partner

SYDNEY, Nov 19 - The OneAsia Tour has appointed Singapore-based World Sport Group to be its global marketing partner.

The fledgling Asia Pacific golf tour, which is expanding to 11 events next season from five this year and hopes to grow to 20 in 2011, said in a statement on Thursday the relationship was on a multi-year, multi-million dollar basis.

Formed by the PGA of Australia, China Golf Association, Korea Golf Tour and the Korea Golf Association earlier this year, the OneAsia Tour would one day become of a similar stature to the U.S. and European tours, WSG Chief Executive Seamus O'Brien said

"Asia is undoubtedly the future of world golf. It is no coincidence that U.S. PGA Tour officials have recently visited the OneAsia founding nations," he said in the statement.

"Interest in golf across the region is at an all-time high, and its entry into the Olympic Games will only serve to fuel its growth even further in all markets." (Reporting by Julian Linden; Editing by Peter Rutherford. To query or comment on this story email sportsfeedback@thomsonreuters.com)
