No replay of Watford game

LONDON - Watford's league match against Reading will not be replayed despite the match officials awarding Reading a goal that they never scored. The Football League, which runs the Championship said on Monday the result of Saturday's match, which ended in a 2-2 draw at Vicarage Road, would stand and there were no plans to replay the game.

Hamilton tells appeal court he did no wrong at Spa

PARIS - McLaren's Lewis Hamilton told a Formula One appeal court on Monday that he had gained no advantage from a chicane-cutting controversy that cost him victory in this month's Belgian Grand Prix. The 23-year-old championship leader was demoted from first to third at Spa-Francorchamps after cutting a chicane in a duel over the closing laps with Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen.

LONDON - Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said he does not have "a rational answer" as to why the Abu Dhabi United Group have taken over Premier League club Manchester City in a multi-million pound deal. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan will formally become the new owner of the club on Tuesday.

Kalou earns Chelsea draw with Man Utd

LONDON - A late goal by substitute Salomon Kalou earned Chelsea a 1-1 draw with Manchester United in the Premier League's showdown at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Kalou, who came on in the 74th minute, headed home six minutes later after Park Ji-sung's 18th-minute opener.

Toro Rosso win an inspiration for Force India

LONDON - Force India hope to emulate fellow independents Toro Rosso and win a Formula One grand prix next year, team owner Vijay Mallya said on Monday. "I could not be a happier man. I went to Gerhard Berger and Franz Tost and congratulated them after qualifying, and of course after the race," Mallya said of his rivals' astonishing victory from pole position at Monza on Sept 14.

Kazakhstan name squad for England World Cup qualifier

ALMATY - Kazakhstan's caretaker coach Bernd Storck named the following 27-man squad on Monday for next month's World Cup qualifying Group Six match against England. Storck replaced Dutchman Arno Pijpers last week after the Kazakhs lost their last two qualifiers against Croatia and Ukraine and the German will take charge for the first time at Wembley on October 11.

Safety on Ponting's mind as Australia arrive in India

MUMBAI - Australia arrived in India on Monday for a four-test series starting next month with captain Ricky Ponting saying that players' safety was paramount after a series of bombs in New Delhi on September 13. Australia decided to go ahead with the tour only after a security review following the blasts in the Indian capital that killed at least 20 people and injured more than 90.

Spain reach Davis Cup final with win over U.S

MADRID - World number one Rafael Nadal humbled Andy Roddick with a clay-court master class on Sunday to knock holders the United States out of the Davis Cup and send Spain through to their sixth final. Concerns that Nadal was too tired to shine after playing 103 matches this year were banished as he dismissed the world number eight 6-4 6-0 6-4 in two hours 12 minutes to wrap up the tie for Spain 3-1.

Baseball says goodbye as Yankee Stadium retired

NEW YORK - Baseball said goodbye to Yankee Stadium on Sunday, ending 85 years at America's most storied sports venue with a celebration of its past and a postgame salute that players and fans didn't want to leave. The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles 7-3 in what was practically an inconsequential game, but a sellout crowd electrified "The House That Ruth Built."
