NILAI, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- Malaysia should no longer be promoted as a country which offers cheap and convenient education centres, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said today.
He said Malaysia should be more aggressive in attracting foreign students, especially the outstanding ones, to pursue their studies in the country.
"We have to convince them that Malaysia not only offers quality education, but also opportunities to learn about culture and Asian values," he said in his speech at a seminar on preparation of Tenth Malaysia Plan development programmes/projects here today.
He said Malaysia should emulate Australia for being able to attract foreign students.
Khaled also suggested that a higher research fund be made for universities under the Tenth Malaysia Plan.
This is crucial to enable Malaysia to remain competitive, he added.
