MORE NATIONAL HERITAGE TO BE IDENTIFIED

MELAKA, Nov 8 (Bernama) -- The National Heritage Department is targeting to identify 70 new heritage sites to be gazetted as Malaysian heritage this year.

Information Communication and Culture Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Wira Kamarudin Siaraf said so far 66 heritage sites including artefacts had been identified and were in the process of being gazetted as national heritage.

"We will continue to identify heritage sites in the country," he told reporters after giving away prizes to winners of the 'Kembara Warisan 2009', here today.

Kamarudin said the National Heritage Department would strive to enhance expertise in the field of conservation especially in the rehabilitation of heritage buildings.

He said the National Heritage Department had taken various measures to ensure that the continuity of national heritage was maintained.

HERITAGE-GAZETTE 2 (LAST) MELAKA

On the 'Kembara Warisan', he said the programme aimed to enrich knowledge and experience of the members of the media on national heritage.

More than 200 media representatives and staff of the Information Communication and Culture Ministry participated in the 'Kembara Warisan' treasure hunt from Kuala Lumpur to Melaka organised by the National Heritage Department, beginning yesterday.

For the media category, the Amazing Autobots from Berita Harian emerged as champion and took home the cash prize of RM3,000, trophy and certificate while 'Kereta Buruk' comprising participants from Bernama and Utusan Malaysia won the second prize of RM2,000, together with a trophy and certificate.
