RUBBER FUTURES CONTINUES TO GAIN ON SHORT SUPPLY

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- Malaysian rubber prices continued to gain at close today on short supply due to the monsoon weather and buying interest from Germany, a dealer said.

The dealer also said the local market was higher on the back of rising Tokyo rubber futures prices.

"The falling supply in Thailand and Malaysia is due to the prolonged rain, which has curbed tapping activities.

"With an extended monsoon weather, the local market is expected to rise further. However, profit-taking would emerge ahead of the long weekend," the dealer added.

The market will be closed on Friday for the Hari Raya Haji holiday.

At noon, the Malaysian Rubber Board official physical price for tyre-grade SMR 20 gained nine sen to 850.5 sen a kilo while latex in bulk increased 4.5 sen to 532 sen a kilo.

The unofficial closing price for tyre-grade SMR 20 climbed 11.5 sen to 856.5 sen per kilo while latex in bulk added 8.5 sen to 537.5 sen per kilo. -- BERNAMA
