MAXIS FB2MOBILE SERVICE TO FACEBOOK, TWISTER AND FRIENDSTER

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 (Bernama) -- Maxis Bhd today became the first mobile communications service provider in Malaysia to provide a full range of mobile services to the top three social networking services, namely Facebook, Twitter and Friendster.

With the launch of a new service called "fb2mobile", Maxis connects its mobile subscribers to Facebook and Twitter via SMS and MMS, the company said in a statement today.

Maxis had earlier launched the Friendster Alert service in May 2009, allowing subscribers to receive updates on their Friendster account via SMS.

For RM2 a month, customers with a Facebook account simply need to send "ON FB" to 23223 (which denotes 2FACE on a normal phone keypad) to register for the service.

Via the mobile phone, fb2mobile enables Maxis customers to, among others, post real-time status updates in Facebook via SMS, upload photo(s) in Facebook via MMS as well as post text to update their Twitter account via the Twitter tool.

With the fb2mobile Mobile Messenger feature, customers can also send SMS to other Maxis customers directly from Facebook.

Maxis said it would also be looking to include other major social networking services such as Yahoo and MSN Messenger.

The company said fb2mobile was developed based on locally developed technology and "Mobile@Play" platform by nPlay Sdn Bhd.

Customers who subscribe to fb2mobile alerts will enjoy free monthly subscriptions until Feb 28, 2010. Thereafter, a monthly charge of RM2 will apply, it said. -- BERNAMA
