KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 (Bernama) -- Three men pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today with cheating a company director regarding a purported sale of land in Mukim Damansara Petaling.
R. Jayasankar, 42, Kok Lai Heng, 37, and Low Khim Seong, 41, are alleged to deceived Chan Weoi Koon, 34, that the owner of the land, GM119 LOT 833 in Sungei Penaga, Mukim Damansara Petaling, wanted to sell it.
According to the charge sheet, Chan later handed over an UOB Bank cheque dated May 20, 2009 worth RM73,500 to an agent by the name Wee Wan Heng, 37.
The offence was allegedly committed in front of legal firm Tam & Faizal Advocates & Solicitors, Unit 1-10, 1st Floor, Straits Trading Building 2, Leboh Pasar Besar, on June 10, 2009.
If convicted, the accused can be jailed up to 10 years and whipped and also fined.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Hafiz Mohd Yusof recommended bail of RM50,000 on each accused but defence lawyer J. Kuldeep Kumar requested a lower amount.
Bail was only supposed to ensure the accused's presence in court and imposing a high amount seemed penalising the accused, the lawyer said.
Judge S.M. Koomathy Suppiah set the bail at RM10,000 on each accused and fixed July 16 for re-mention.
