AGONG CONFERS AWARDS ON MILITARY MEN

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 21 (Bernama) -- Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin today conferred gallantry awards on 307 recipients, including five foreign senior military officers, in conjunction with the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) 76th anniversary.

At the presentation ceremony held at Istana Melawati here, Philippine Armed Forces chief of staff General Victor S. Ibrado, Royal Thai Armed Forces chief of defence forces General Songkiti Jaggabatara and Royal Thai Army commander-in-chief General Anupong Paochinda each received the Honorary Panglima Gagah Angkatan Tentera award.

The director-general of the Department of Borders Affairs, Royal Thai Armed Forces, Lt Gen Nipat Thonglek, and chief of the Malaysia Coordinating Office, Royal Thai Army, Maj Gen Akanit Muansawas, received the Honorary Panglima Setia Angkatan Tentera award.

The Panglima Setia Angkatan Tentera award was conferred on Maj Gen Mohd Noor Daud, Maj Gen Datuk Dr William Rangit Stevenson, Rear Admiral Datuk Dr Zainal Abidin Hamdan and Maj Gen Datuk Jusof@Che Jusoh Embong.

Another 298 members of the MAF were awarded the Pahlawan Angkatan Tentera, Kesatria Angkatan Tentera and Bentara Angkatan Tentera medals.

The awards presentation will continue tomorrow involving another 322 recipients.
