SHARE PRICES BROADLY LOWER AT MIDDAY

Bernama - Thursday, July 2

KUALA LUMPUR, July 2 (Bernama) -- Share prices on Bursa Malaysia were broadly lower at midday today as investors took in profits in selected heavyweights led by Maybank, dealers said.

They said the market was in rangebound trade during the earlier session despite Wall Street's overnight uptrend and the government's announcement on further liberalisation in the services sector this week.

At 12.30 pm, the benchmark Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) declined 1.97 points or 0.183 percent to 1,077.43, dragged down by losses mostly in Maybank.

However, mild bargain hunting in Bumiputra-Commerce and Sime Darby managed to cap some of the losses.

The CI, which opened 1.48 points higher at 1,080.88, moved between 1,076.15 and 1,081.74 during the trading session.

The Plantation Index rose 27.5 points to 5,412.42 and the Industrial Index added 4.57 points to 2,375.96 while the Finance Index was 13.37 points lower at 8,551.25.

The FBMEmas Index eased 5.24 points to 7,217.41, the FBM30 Index edged up 4.28 points to 6,940.31, the FBM2BRD Index declined 14.98 points to 4,726.30 and the FBMMesdaq Index decreased 17.03 points to 4,013.81.

Losers led gainers by 269 to 193 counters while 196 were unchanged, 570 untraded and 36 others suspended.

Volume stood at 391.038 million shares worth RM455.647 million.

Leading the actives was UEM Land Holdings which eased two sen to RM1.46.

Among the heavyweights, Sime Darby rose 10 sen to RM7.15 and Bumiputra-Commerce gained 25 sen to RM9.35.

Maybank dropped 20 sen to RM5.65 while Tenaga remained at the overnight price of RM7.65. -- BERNAMA
