KUALA TERENGGANU, May 10 (Bernama) -- Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin tonight declared open the main stadium of the State Sports Complex in Gong Badak in a colourful ceremony. The stadium, to be called Stadium Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, will be the venue for the 12th Malaysia Games (Sukma) to be held from May 31 to June 9. Also present at the ceremony were the Head of the Regency Advisory Council (MPPR) Tengku Sri Panglima Raja, Tengku Baderulzaman Sultan Mahmud, Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said and State Secretary Datuk Mokhtar Nong. At the conclusion of the official opening speech by the Menteri Besar, Tuanku Mizan declared the stadium open by placing his hand on a crystal ball and signing a special plaque. About 50,000 people braved the heavy rain to witness the opening ceremony for the RM270 million stadium. The crowd were entertained to a fireworks display, acrobatic performance by acrobats from China, a tattoo by the Royal Malaysia Police and songs by artistes Datuk Siti Nurhaliza and Anuar Zain. -- BERNAMA ERE AO
