Tropical Storm Karina forms in Pacific off Mexico

AP - Wednesday, September 3

MEXICO CITY - Tropical Storm Karina has formed off Mexico's Pacific coast, but forecasters say it is expected to move out to sea and weaken.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami says the storm formed on Tuesday about 375 miles (600 kilometers) west of the resort of Puerto Vallarta.

Karina has winds of around 40 mph (64 kph) and is expected to remain about at that strength as it moves west-northwest, out to sea.

The storm is expected to maintain a roughly westward motion over the next few days before weakening to a depression later in the week.
