US State Department official to visit North Korea for nuclear talks, report says

AP - Monday, May 5

TOKYO - A report says the U.S. State Department's top Korea expert is planning to visit North Korea on Monday for talks on the North's nuclear programs.

Kyodo News agency cites unnamed diplomatic sources for its report Sunday on the visit of Sung Kim, director of the Office of Korean Affairs.

In Seoul, South Korea's Foreign Ministry said it has no information on a visit. The U.S. Embassy could not be reached to confirm the report.

Kim visited North Korea in late April and met with Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye Gwan, head of North Korea's delegation to the six-party talks on denuclearization.

Participants in the six-party talks include North Korea, South Korea, the United States, China, Japan and Russia.
